I was shopping for a Mystery Ranch backpack. The used price was more than the current price for a new one on REI.com. I emailed to inquire and was instructed that it was a 3rd party and they had no control over the prices.

WebI understand your point, but I truly think the “keeping gear out of landfills” is a secondary motivation for REI. They have realized selling used gear is now a money maker and a business.
