I just did this on my truck, seems to have worked pretty well: Get some 1/8 inch angle stock (steel in an L shape, basically) Drill out the old rivets holding in the rusted crossmembers Match-drill holes in the L-shaped bar stock you bought, and bolt it in place. WebJan 31, 2003 · This is a really common problem for G bodies. Of course, there is a lot of people who have overcome it. The most common cure is to cut a notch out of the crossmember. That is what I have done to my crossmember. A notch big enough for the pipe to pass under is cut out and small plates are welded in to "box" the notch.
